The Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) was adopted on 24 October 2006 by Decision No. 1639/2006/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.
It was an European Union programme running from 2007 to 2013 with an overall budget of € 3621 million.
CIP was targeted to foster the innovative capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), supporting innovation activities, information and communication technologies (ICT) as encouraging renewable energies and energy efficiency.
CIP was structured structuring in three specific operational programmes:
- The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (EIP);
- The Information and Communication Technologies Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP);
- The Intelligent Energy-Europe Programme (IEEP).
